Abstract

The Center offers a wide variety of programs focused on enhancing the teaching and learning of science and mathematics in the 21 school districts of the five western counties of Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Teacher professional development programs on many topics ranging from forestry and environmental sciences, to engineering and space science are offered to teachers throughout the Midwest to assist in the implementation of state and national content standards. The Center's K-12 student programs stimulate inquiry learning in the classroom, apply learning to real world challenges, and involve students in their communities. The Center is currently involved in developing statewide environmental education curriculum for middle school students. Center programs are funded with grants from state agencies, the National Science Foundation, the Wege Foundation, and contributions from local schools.
