Skeletal Tissue
Machanics Lab:
Located on the 10th floor
of the ME-EM building, the STML is a fully integrated lab utilizing
both traditional mechanics and biology. The lab is equipped with
an Instron 8872 hydraulic materials testing system including custom
made cryogrips for biological soft tissue and a saline bath, dissection
table, freezer and refrigerator storage and a fume hood. A Sun
Workstation (Ultra80, 4 processors, Sun Microsystems) is available
for finite element analysis. Additionally, the lab has a laminar
flow hood, water bath, incubators, gel elctrophoresis equipment.
Lastly, the newest addition to the lab is a custom built bioreactor
for applying physiological loads to meniscal tissue explants.
Bone Biology
and Mechanics Lab:
Located in the M&M
building, and directed by Dr.
Seth Donahue, the BBML is used for cell culture facilities and
biochemical testing equipment. The lab includes water baths, gel
electrophoresis equipment, -20 ° freezer, light microscope and fluorescent
microscope, microplate reader, centrifuges, microcentrifuges, cell
culture hood, incubators, a fluid flow system for exposing cells
to shear stress and a fluorscent microscopy/imaging system for real-time
measurement of fluorescently labeled biosignaling molecules.
