Influences of Dams

Michigan Environmental Education Curriculum
River and Stream Ecosystems

Dams may have many affects on the river ecosystem. They can change the flow patterns of rivers and block migration routes for many fish as well as invertebrates. They can change river temperatures, reduce stream flow, and disrupt sediment behavior. All of these factors can effect the stream and river ecosystem.
