The Red Fox is common to coastal dunes but is found in many habitats throughout the state. It is small enough to pass through a 4 inch hole, where it will make its den.

(Terrapene carolina carolina)

The Eastern Box Turtle usually lives within 5 acres its entire life. They live for several decades, feeding on plants and berries. They are protected under Michigan Law as a special concerned specie. Their numbers are declining due to habitat loss.

(Larus glaucescens)

If you have been to the beach you have more than likely seen a gull. Most commonly called the seagull, these birds thrive in coastal areas where they feed on small fish and discarded food.

Monarch Butterfly

(Danaus plexippus)

This is just one of the many common species of insects that thrives in coastal dune areas and throughout the region. These butterflies can migrate as far as Mexico and South America.
