When the sun gives the earth energy, it isn't in the form of electricity. If it was, every time walked outside you would be electrified. It is important to understand electricity on a large and small scale.
Small Scale:

[Animation] On the atomic level electrons circle the nucleolus in cloud like manner. Sometimes electrons are able to escape the cloud. When this occurs the atom that was neutral, now becomes positive. Being positive it attracts electrons from other atoms. The chain of losing electrons and gaining electron is what an electrical current is.

The small scale is important to understand, but the large scale is what matters. Don't lose site that any where there is an electrical current created, there is a loss and gain of electrons.

How does electricity get to your house?

Large Scale:
Large Scale

This is where energy is converted to electricity.

Transmission of Electricity

This is the system of high village power lines and sub-stations that bring electricity close to you.
