Captains' Instructions

  • Captain assignments will be made by the Captain's Liaison and posted to the web calendar as a Comment on the date of reservation.
  • Operational weeks run Sunday through Saturday. On the Friday before the week in which a reservation is scheduled, users will contact their captain and other users for that week to confirm departure times and set contingency plans for weather days.
  • Captains are asked to arrive at the vessel 30 minutes prior to departure to go through pre-cruise safety and maintenance checks.
  • Prior to departure, captains are required to call the MTU Central Heating Plant (487-2707) to confirm that a Float Plan has been filed.
  • Captains are asked to refuel the boat and conduct post-cruise safety and maintenance checks upon return.
  • Upon return to the dock, captains are required to call the MTU Central Heating Plant (487-2707) to close the Float Plan.
  • Captains are asked to complete a cruise report to be submitted to Shelle Sandell along with fuel receipts.
  • Note that a relief captain is required after 12 hours of operation. Captains are responsible for arranging relief, either by carrying a second captain aboard or by returning to shore to change captains.
