Users' Instructions

  • Users can submit reservation requests through the calendar on this web site. Reservations will be reviewed and posted to the calendar as confirmation of acceptance.

  • Upon confirmation, users are asked to contact the Captain’s Liaison, Stephen Roblee, at 906.487.3039 or rroblee@mtu.edu to have a captain assigned. A relief captain is required after 12 hours of operation. If users plan to operate for more than 12 hours, they must inform the Captain Liaison of this so that arrangements for a relief captain can be made. Captain assignments will then be posted to the web calendar.

  • Operational weeks run Sunday through Saturday. On the Friday before the week in which a reservation is scheduled, users are asked to contact their captain and other users for that week to confirm departure times and set contingency plans for weather days.

  • Users are required to file a Float Plan. Blank copies of the Float Plan can be downloaded from this page. One copy of the Float Plan is to be filed at the MTU Central Heating Plant (CHP) before boarding the vessel. If the CHP is locked, a buzzer is located next to the door on the north side of the building. A second copy of the Float Plan is to be delivered to the captain upon arrival at the dock.  The captain will call the CHP to confirm the float plan prior to departure.

  • The captain will close the Float Plan, indicating safe conclusion of the cruise, by telephoning the CHP upon return to the dock.  Users are required to cooperate with the captain to see that the Float Plan is closed.
