Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Watkins' research interests include the application of decision theory and information technology to water resource problems characterized by uncertainty and conflicting objectives. He has completed externally funded research projects on rainfall frequency analysis, radar precipitation estimation, reservoir systems optimization, and watershed modeling and stakeholder education. He teaches courses on water resources planning and management, environmental systems analysis, engineering hydrology, and hydraulic structures. Dr. Watkins has served as advisor or co-advisor on 8 M.S. theses or reports and on the committees of 4 Ph.D. dissertations. He has published articles in several, peer-reviewed journals, including the Journal of Water Resources Planning and Management, Operations Research, Advances in Water Resources, Water International, and Water Resources Bulletin.

Related Activities

Member, Environmental and Water Resources Systems Committee, Amer. Soc. of Civil Engrs. (ASCE)
Chair, Operations Management Committee, ASCE
Reviewer for several journals in the fields of water resources and environmental engineering
