Margaret Gale

Research and Teaching Interests

Dr. Gale’s research focuses on the ecology of wetlands and riparian areas within the Upper Great Lakes Region. She most recently is working with her graduate students on projects assessing the genetic variability of wetland plants in the Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, and Ontario and the contribution of vegetation to nitrogen processes within riparian zones. She has served as co-principal investigator or project director for more than $1.1 million in extramural research supported by DOE, USDA-NRI, US Forest Service, and National Council for Air and Stream Improvement. She has authored or co-authored over 30 presentations at scientific and ecology conferences, published over 40 papers in the peer-reviewed literature and advised 21 M.S. and 6 Ph.D. research theses. Dr. Gale has taught courses in wetland ecology, research methods in natural resources, forest management, and senior capstone for forestry and applied ecology majors.
