Research and Teaching Interests
Dr. Auer’s research focuses on experimental studies and
mathematical modeling in support of the understanding and protection of
the Great Lakes and inland waters. He has served as co-principal investigator
or project director for more than $3 million in extramural research supported
by the American Water Works Association, the Michigan Great Lakes Protection
Fund, the National Science Foundation, the New York City Department of Environmental
Protection and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. He has authored
or co-authored over 100 presentations at scientific and engineering conferences,
published 70 papers in the peer-reviewed scientific and engineering literature
and advised 26 M.S. and 4 Ph.D. research theses. Dr. Auer teaches courses
in environmental engineering fundamentals, surface water quality engineering
and surface water quality modeling and is active in environmental outreach
to secondary schools.
